Severe Toothaches: Clean the affected tooth by rising with warm running water or using dental floss to remove impacted bacteria from tooth surfece. Do not give your kid the baby ASPIRIN! If your child’s face and cheek is swollen use a cold pack gently on the face. If further problems persist contact Dr. Vafa immediately.

  • Cut and Bleeding Tongue, Lip, or Cheek and sift tissue: Firmly apply ice pack to affected areas and use firm but gentle pressure with a wet gauze to stop bleeding. If the bleeding cannot be contained using pressure, or continues for 15 minutes or more, take your child to our office immediately.Knocked Out Permanent Tooth: First, find the tooth immediately and handle it by the crown portion and not the root. Place it in a small container with some milk or the patient’s saliva. If the child is old enough, they may be able to place the tooth back in its socket and hold it in place. Make an emergency appointment with Dr. Vafa right away, as timing is critical in saving the tooth.
  • Bitten Lip or Tongue
    Clean the area gently with a cloth or a guaze and apply cold compresses to reduce bleeding and swelling. If the bleeding doesn’t stop immediately callus.
  • Broken Tooth
    Rinse the mouth with warm water to clean the area. Use cold compressesor ice on the area to keep any swelling down. Call our office immediately.
  • Cracked Tooth
  • Jaw-Possibly Broken
    Apply cold compresses or ice to control swelling. Come to our office or a hospital emergency department immediately.
  • Knocked Out Tooth
    Hold the tooth by the crown and rinse off the root of the tooth in water or milk if it’s dirty. Do not scrub or remove any attached tissue fragments and do not touch the root.. If possible, gently insert and hold the tooth in its socket. If that isn’t possible, put the tooth in a cup of milk or normal saline and get to Dr. Vafa as quickly as possible. Remember to take the tooth with you!
  • Mouthguards are the best preventive option for your child tooth protection.
